Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The 2024 Juneau Area (Section 11-A) winter personal use red and blue king crab season will be open from 8:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, through 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Analysis of data from the 2023 Juneau portion of the annual red and blue king crab stock assessment survey indicated sufficient stock abundance to open the Section 11-A personal use red and blue king crab fishery. The winter fishery will proceed with the following daily bag and possession limits and restrictions:

  • Daily bag and possession limit for the fishery is 1 legal male red or blue king crab per household permit
  • Winter seasonal limit for the fishery is 1 legal male red or blue king crab per household permit.
  • King, Tanner, or Dungeness crab may only be taken using one pot or two ring nets per vessel or diving during this personal use fishery.
  • Female, undersized, and unretained legal crab MUST be immediately released unharmed in the location where they were caught.
  • A household permit is required to participate in the fishery and permits are available online.
  • Harvest reports are required for the winter red and blue king crab fishery and can be reported online at https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/Harvest/ or returned to the Douglas Area office by Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Residents are reminded that they must also have a valid 2024 sport fishing license if 18 years of age or older prior to harvesting personal use king crab.
