The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly Finance Committee on Wednesday voted to raise the proposed property tax rate for fiscal year 2026 to 10.24 mills, up from a previous proposal of 10.19 mills.
The CBJ’s current mill rate is 10.04.
Deputy City Manager Robert Barr told News of the North the increase stems from additional community-requested expenditures and potential losses in federal revenue related to federal land holdings.
If approved, the new rate would mean property owners pay $10.24 for every $1,000 of assessed value.
Mayor Beth Weldon is also weighing potential budget cuts to the Juneau Economic Development Council and the Jensen-Olson Arboretum.
Additionally, a proposed seasonal sales tax would impose a 3.5% rate in winter and 7.5% in summer, which Barr said could save year-round residents an estimated $800 to $815 annually.
The CBJ Assembly is scheduled to meet next on June 9.
