A Pine Bluff attorney is spending time in jail after failing to appear for a client’s jury trial in Miller County.

Circuit Judge Brent Haltom found attorney Zoe Jackson in contempt and ordered her to remain in custody from Wednesday until Monday morning at 9 a.m. She was also ordered to repay the county $1,510 for jury costs.

Jackson had requested a delay in the trial of her client, Demon Mar’Quincy Richardson, arguing she had just received new evidence from the state. Judge Haltom denied the request, stating the material was not relevant to trial readiness.

Jackson later filed a motion asking Judge Haltom to recuse himself, citing alleged misconduct and unfair treatment. The judge denied the request, stating there was no basis for him to step down.

Richardson is facing firearm and assault charges from a September 7 incident and remains in custody on a $100,000 bond. His trial has been rescheduled for April 8.
