Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Updated 7:00 p.m.: On Saturday at 4:22 p.m. Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to 9247 Gee Street for a structure fire.

“On arrival, crews found the homeowner fighting the fire with portable fire extinguishers. Firefighters quickly entered the residence and extinguished the fire inside of a laundry utility room. The fire attack crew then searched the residence and rescued a dog that was located underneath the dining table. The dog was taken outside…provided first aid and oxygen. The two occupants of the house were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation from smoke inhalation,” Fire Chief Rich Etheridge said. “Damage is estimated between 10 and $15,000. The homeowner is credited for saving the home by knocking the fire down with the portable fire extinguisher and contacting 911 as early as possible. They also closed the door to the laundry room where the fire was located. This limited oxygen and the growth of the fire.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and CCFR will provide updates once more information is learned.
