JUNEAU — The Assembly Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
The committee will take up a number of topics, including a discussion about putting school bond projects on the ballot, visitor industry revenue options, and Assembly grants and community requests.
According to a memo from Juneau City Manager Katie Koester, regarding the school bond issue, she is seeking to “organize Assembly debate around a potential bond for school major maintenance projects on the October 2025 municipal ballot.”
Koester’s memo states the Assembly previously directed city staff to work with Juneau School District on a tiered proposal for potential projects – for $5 million, $10 million and $15 million worth of bonds.
Twelve requests for grant money from the city to community organizations are on the docket for the meeting. A total of $1,471,263 is being sought by the 12 organizations, with the single largest request coming from Juneau Community Foundation, in the amount of $500,000 for recurring funding of the Juneau Hope Endowment and CBJ Social Service Grant Program.
The single largest one-time funding request — totaling $250,000 — comes from Association of Education for Young Children for gap funding for the Juneau Child Care Apprenticeship Program.
