Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) – On Jan. 18, an Anchorage grand jury indicted Derek Schraffenberger, 46, on one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, four counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and seven counts of Assault in the Third Degree for a domestic violence assault. The charges stem from a Jan. 15, 2024 incident in which Schraffenberger is alleged to have strangled and beaten a domestic partner.
Schraffenberger will be arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court today, Jan. 22.
If convicted at trial, Schraffenberger faces a sentence of up to 99 years of imprisonment.
The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Schraffenberger is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
