An energy company wants tax incentives from Little River County, Arkansas, to build a solar farm and battery center north of Ashdown.

The Little River County Quorum Court held a public hearing on Tuesday, where many residents gathered to discuss the project. Some people oppose the plan, especially the battery storage system, which would be built off State Highway 108.

NextEra Energy plans to use about 2,000 acres for the project. Some residents, like Tracy Jones, worry about environmental risks, including pollution and fires.

NextEra Energy has worked on projects in Arkansas since 2018. The quorum court is expected to vote on the tax incentives later this month.
