A hiker who fell approximately 150 feet near the Salmon Creek Dam has died from his injuries, according to Capital City Fire/Rescue (CCFR).

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon and initially prompted a multi-agency rescue operation involving CCFR, Juneau Mountain Rescue, Alaska State Troopers, and Temsco Helicopters.

A paramedic and EMT reached the injured hiker and began life-saving efforts, but CCFR later confirmed in an update on Facebook that the individual had succumbed to his injuries.

The Juneau Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The identity of the hiker has not yet been released, and no additional details are available at this time.
