A Hooks man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for selling counterfeit prescription pills containing fentanyl, resulting in a fatal overdose.
Henry Wayne Milligan, 28, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl resulting in death. On April 2, 2025, U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder III sentenced him to 240 months in federal prison.
According to court records, Milligan sold the victim what appeared to be prescription pills, but they were later confirmed to contain fentanyl, a synthetic opioid far more potent than heroin or morphine. The victim was later found dead from an overdose. Milligan confessed to selling the pills following his arrest.
Authorities, including the Texarkana Texas Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, investigated the case. Detective Daniel Linn was credited for his work in identifying Milligan as the supplier.
The DEA continues to warn the public about the dangers of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl and has launched the “One Pill Can Kill” campaign to raise awareness. More information can be found at www.dea.gov/onepill
