According to court records, apartment staff at 801 Mack St. called 911 after finding the decomposing body of a 2-month-old puppy in a bedroom. Police say the room was filled with urine and feces, and no food or water was available. The apartment had been occupied by 24-year-old Senai Sinquiece Johnson, who had been ordered to vacate by December 20.

Johnson was arrested on January 7 but is no longer in custody. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and other penalties. The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joseph Short.
