Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (JAHC) hosted its last artist’s market of the year on Saturday.

There were about 35 vendors who participated in the ‘stuffed stocking stuffer showcase’ market, and it was a requirement to have products for $25 and less.

Marketing Manager of the JAHC, Traci Ferguson Hayes, said they wanted to host a market for everyone.

“We kind of thought about stocking stuffers, those last-minute gifts. And then we also thought that there are so many other opportunities between Thanksgiving and Public Market and Gallery Walk and all of the other markets around this time,” she said. “We wanted something that adheres to everybody.”

She shared who some of her favorite vendors were at the event.

“I’m So Busy, I really love her stockings she has. She makes her own stockings and they are little Xtratuff stockings. They’re so cute. We also have ReccaShay and Tide Watcher,” Ferguson Hayes said. “They have some really cool ornaments. I always love to highlight Bird Nest’s Pottery because she has some really neat ceramics and they’re all under $30.”

Admission to the holiday market was free, and food donations were highly encouraged. The JAHC always takes food donations during their business hours, not just during the markets. After the JAHC’s fall ‘Pumpkin Spice’ market, they were able to donate over 500 pounds of food.

The JAHC also has a special membership drive this month. Memberships start at $25 per person annually and if someone signs up for a membership during December, they will receive a 50th anniversary gift. Sign up for a membership online or call 586-2787 (586-ARTS).

Signing up for the JAHC membership allows early access to tickets. Ferguson Hayes said these are some of the events coming up next year.

“We have a Bollywood dancing class which we are partnering up with Spice Juneau Indian Cuisine for in January. We also have a new gallery exhibit every month of course, and then in February, we’re working on our ‘CLINK’, a wine-tasting fundraiser,” Ferguson Hayes said. “So, that’s our annual fundraiser. It helps with promoting scholarships and grants to local artists.”

She added that ‘CLINK’ is their biggest fundraiser of the year.
