JUNEAU — The Juneau School District Board of Education has appointed Steve Whitney to fill a vacancy on the board following the resignation of Will Muldoon on April 21.

Under board bylaws, the vacancy was required to be filled within 30 days.

Five individuals submitted written applications and were interviewed by the board in an open session on Saturday, May 17. Public comments submitted via comment cards and email were reviewed during the board’s deliberations in executive session.

Following the interviews, the board voted unanimously to appoint Whitney. He was sworn in by Judge Amy Mead.

“We appreciate all of the qualified applicants who expressed interest in serving on the board,” Board President Deedie Sorensen said. “We are pleased to welcome Steve and are confident he will bring valuable experience to the board’s work through the fall.”

Whitney will serve until the October 2025 municipal election.
