However, people with weakened immune systems—such as those with HIV, organ transplants, or certain autoimmune diseases—may need to check their immunity and consider a booster.

Infants under one year are at higher risk, with a mortality rate up to 3%. The MMR vaccine is usually given at 12 to 15 months, though high-risk areas may start at six months.

In Bowie County, Leary ISD and Red Lick ISD have over 5% of students with vaccine exemptions. Dr. Bailes stresses that maintaining over 95% vaccination rates is key to preventing outbreaks.
