METLAKATLA — In response to a growing drug crisis in Metlakatla, the Metlakatla Indian Community has launched a new, anonymous hotline to combat the trafficking of fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.
The hotline — 907-886-7923 — is available 24/7. Calls are not recorded, and caller ID is not used, according to a statement from the MIC Council and Executives. All callers will remain anonymous.
Tipsters could receive up to $5,000 in cash rewards. A reward of up to $2,000 may be issued if a tip leads to an arrest with charges, and an additional $3,000 may be awarded if a conviction is secured.
Tips are reviewed and forwarded to law enforcement as appropriate.
Certain individuals are not eligible for rewards, including law enforcement officers, their immediate family members, and anyone involved in the crime.
Tips must also be submitted to the hotline within 24 hours if 911 was contacted or if a detective is already involved. Tips posted on social media will not qualify for rewards.
