Senator Sullivan issues statement on Senate Border Legislation

Washington (KINY) -Senate Republicans blocked a major bipartisan border deal and foreign aid package with assistance for Ukraine and Israel in a vote on Wednesday. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), released the following statement on the Senate vote to advance border legislation.

The failed procedural vote by Senate Republicans may come as a surprise as the deal would have enacted restrictive border measures and was created in part by one of their own members. Senator Sullivan said he voted no because of the time frame being “inadequate”.

“Despite the hard work of Senator Lankford, this bill appears to give broad discretion to the President, leaving open the possibility that President Biden will not secure the border as intended by this bill. Indeed, the last three years are strong evidence that he won’t,” Sullivan said.
