Texarkana, Texas, is investing around $500,000 to upgrade its aging weather warning system

Texarkana, Texas, is investing around $500,000 to upgrade its aging weather warning system. The city has 13 weather warning sirens, many nearly 50 years old, which can sometimes malfunction.

Fire Chief Chris Black said the project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. Once finished, the new system will cover the entire city and improve safety during severe weather.

“These sirens aren’t just for tornado warnings,” Chief Black said. “Anytime there’s a danger to our citizens, we’ll likely set them off.”

Work on the project is set to begin within the next three to four weeks.
