Juneau, Alaska (KINY)- The Following is an Information release by the Juneau Police Department

A 24-year-old male Juneau resident reported to JPD that his vehicle, a 2001 GMC Jimmy, had been followed by another vehicle, a 2019 Volkswagon Jetta. They started driving from the area of Glacier Highway and Safeway to the roundabout at Stephen Richards Memorial Drive and Mendenhall Loop Road. After making several passes around the roundabout, the caller stopped his vehicle, and the other vehicle pulled up alongside. The caller reported that the other driver stayed in his vehicle, as did the caller. The caller said the other driver was upset, was yelling at him, and had what looked like a rifle in his hands. The caller said the other driver pointed the rifle at him, at which point, the caller pulled out a pistol and shot the other driver. The caller called JPD and waited at the scene for police to arrive.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. A pellet/BB-style CO2 rifle was found with the deceased driver.
Notification to the next of kin has been made. The deceased is identified as a 16-year-old male Juneau resident.
Following the preliminary investigation, the 24-year-old male was released by police. Both drivers appear to have been unknown to each other before this incident.
