Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – National Weather Service Juneau (NWSJ) issued Winter Storm Warnings as well as Winter Weather Advisories for the Icy Strait corridor including Juneau up through the Northeast Gulf coast. Areas that are under the Winter Storm Warnings include Yakutat which is expected to see 6-9″ of snow by Friday afternoon. Haines and Klukwan are expected to see 2-8″ of snow. Juneau is expected to get 5-13″ of snow between 9 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. All of these locations listed for the warnings could see wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour.

Areas that are included in Winter Weather Advisories include Skagway for 4-7″ of snow between noon Friday and noon Saturday. Gustavus and Hoonah are expected to pick up 3-4″ of snow while Pelican looks to receive 3-5″ of snow between 9 a.m. Friday morning and 9 p.m. this evening.

NWSJ meteorologist Andrew Park said the benefit this time around is that Juneau didn’t have cold outflow beforehand. Because of this, he said we are in a much better place than the last few storms that brought January’s record snowfall.
